The Danube Flow

Day 1           Regensburg

INCLUDED NIGHT OUT - DEUTSCHLAND DISCOVERY (PM)

This one's for the students. Head to Regensburg at sunset and experience the youthful buzz of Old Town, home to some of the best nightlife in all of Deutschland. Kick things off with a host-escorted walk, stopping at the city’s famous churches and aristocratic houses from the 13th and 14th centuries. Then if the weather’s nice, head to the Stone Bridge to eat, drink and mingle under the moonlight. Regensburg comes alive at night, as you will see.

Day 2           Passau                                                                                                                          Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

INCLUDED - SCENIC PASSAU (PM)

Into beautiful scenery and architecture? Don't pass on Passau. Situated at the intersection of the Danube, Inn and llz rivers, the city boasts some of the best views on the German-Austrian border. Take a hike to one of Passau's best viewpoints: Veste Oberhaus. The views are storybook, allowing you to see the entire city of Passau as well as the surrounding countryside. Get lost in the city’s maze of old town alleys. Get your architecture fix at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, with its distinctive domed towers. Fun fact: The cathedral is also home to one of the largest organs in the world, with 17,974 pipes.

Day 3           Passau & Linz                                                                                                              Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

INCLUDED - BIKE THE DANUBE (PM)

Feeling energized after your morning hike? Grab a bike and cruise down the famous Danube bike path, which is particularly scenic from Passau to Vienna. Your expert guides will lead you on a flat 20-mile route. Reunite with the ship in Engelhartszell, where you can quench your thirst with beer made by Trappist monks.

INCLUDED NIGHT OUT - THE SECOND LIFE OF LINZ (PM)

Spend an evening exploring Austria’s third-largest city, Linz, a leading center for modern media arts. Arrive in port and walk to the striking Ars Electronica Center, which focuses on society, technology and life in the future. No matter which way you turn, there’s something insightful and futuristic to explore in Linz.

U TIME - LOOK INTO LINZ’ PAST (PM)

For centuries there have been wine and beer cellars in the sandstone hills west of Linz. During the course of the second World War, the existing cellars were extended to giant kilometer-long tunnels for the purpose of air-raid protection by thousands of innocent inmates in the Nazi concentration camp Mauthausen. On this interesting U Time excursion, kick off the evening with a cocktail at one of Linz’s best rooftop bars. Take in the views and chat with your local expert before heading to Limonistollen to get a glimpse into the past at one of Linz’ commemorative WWII sites.

Day 4           Melk, Wachau & Dürnstein                                                                                         Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

INCLUDED - A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT (AM)

Take a breathtaking (literally) bike tour through the UNESCO Wachau Valley. You’ll travel 20 scenic miles along the Danube, passing the wine villages of Willendorf, St. Michaels, Weissenkirchen and Joching, and meet the ship in Dürnstein with some amazing new memories and photographs.

INCLUDED - CASTLE RUINS RENDEZVOUS (PM)

Dürnstein, Austria, is a beautiful town situated along the Danube River. Explore its restaurants, shops and scenic views to discover why it’s nicknamed the “Pearl of the Wachau.” Take a stroll through the town’s narrow cobblestone streets to historical buildings like the Blue Monastery Church and Abbey. Last but definitely not least, hike up to the famous Dürnstein Castle ruins where Richard the Lionheart was once a prisoner, and have a dream photo op. With expansive views of the Danube River and Wachau Valley, this is a can’t-miss experience.

Day 5           Vienna                                                                                                                          Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Continue along the famous Ringstrasse to see one of the city’s four famous opera houses and The Albertina Museum. Then, make your way to the beautiful and shaded Burggarten for a quick cool down before continuing your adventure! After you’ve had a moment’s rest, walk into the inner city to Bräunerstraße, where your guide will show you the best cafés and bars that locals frequent. Sample cheeses, wines and delicious palatschinken! Finally, amble over to the iconic (and gorgeous) St. Stephen’s Cathedral. And now your crash course tour of Vienna is over!
